Materials:
Families should purchase or have on hand the following supplies:
New to Mrs. Billing’s class:
- Drawing From the Right Side of the Brain 2nd Edition, workbook, by Betty Edwards.
- Collection of found collage materials new, recycled, or gathered
- A collection of interesting reference photos taken by the student or printed from online free open-sourced stock image sites. Do not mine directly off the internet! Images will be needed for projects as we move along through the year. They do not need to have them on the first day. Pixabay.com and pexels.com are good choices.
Also needed from last year’s supply list:
- Canson XL Mix Media Spiral Sketch Pad containing 60 sheets, 9”x12” –Or— Canson Artist Series Drawing Book – Cream – 9×12, 60 Sheets (preferred by instructor)
- Small set of watercolor brushes (5-10 assorted, medium to low quality)
- Good quality drawing pen
- One small set of colored pencils
- One ½ pan 5-12 color watercolor, primary color base (no sparkles, neon, pastels, etc.) Prang is a good brand or the Winsor & Newton Cotman Water Colour Paint Sketchers’ Pocket Box that is recommended for the Nature Journaling class.
The following classroom supplies and learning resources will be provided by the instructor:
- Watercolor paper
- Various drawing and painting supplies
- Most all of the drawing supply kit as found in workbook.
Texas Art Supply on Voss is the recommended location for purchasing art supplies along with Jerry’s Artarama in the Heights. Good online stores include: Amazon.com, Dickblick.com, Jerrysartarama.com.
Note: No need to buy sets with more than 12 colors, especially watercolor sets. Less is better and too many color choices can interfere with learning color theory. Supplies the family already has on hand are good to use and encouraged.
